About Us

Our wildflowers have the opportunity to make their own choices on the area’s they would like to explore – be it role play, craft, construction or the outside pod.

We encourage independence, manners, healthy eating and social skills.

We love for our wildflowers to engage with their ideas, peers and creativity through a variety of activities including story, yoga, dancing, games or singing.

Our Learning Environment

The children learn and play amongst a beautiful environment with a large outdoor area to explore. We also have our own allotment, and take the children on many trips out to explore.

Joining Wildflowers

When starting Wildflowers we offer two, two hour settling in sessions to help the children get comfortable and get to know their key worker.

Events

Throughout the academic year we organise many events and this is communicated via tapestry and our facebook page.

A Wildflowers Day

Wildflowers arrive to the opportunity to make their own choice on which area they would like to explore. This could be the role play area, craft, large construction or the outside pod. A Wildflower has more than an hour after arrival to fully engage in the activities they desire without disturbance.

A varied snack is then prepared by the Wildflowers of the day and this is available from 10am. Wildflowers are encouraged to wash hands independently, choose what they would like to eat and drink and then tidy what they have used away.

Wildflowers can then return to their choice of play. Occasionally, a sound walk on the field could be planned, visiting the allotment or using the the tennis courts for physical development would then take place.

11.30am is our golden time to specifically focus on communication and language development.

Stories, singing, rhyming, syllable practice and listening/attention games are explored. Wildflowers are grouped with a wonderful and responsive practitioner in different areas of the setting to create a calm learning environment. Practitioners use this opportunity to observe specific communication and language skills and plan accordingly.

Lunch time commences at 12pm and this includes Wildflower practitioners sitting and eating with the Wildflowers to encourage manners, model healthy eating and socialise.

From 1pm to 2.30pm, Wildflowers have this time  undisturbed to really engage with their ideas, peers and creativity.

Around 2.30pm all Wildflowers are encouraged to help tidy their learning environment and the have the choice to vote on a story, yoga, dancing, games or singing.

How our children learn, flourish and grow

At Wildflowers we believe that children are most engaged and therefore, learn best when they are following their own interests. Free flowing, child-initiated play has an incredibly positive impact on young children’s well-being, making them feel safe and secure and consequently helping them to be fully engaged in their learning.

Learning Through Play

Through play children can develop social and cognitive skills, mature emotionally, and gain the self-confidence required to engage in new experiences and environments.

Planning in the Moment

Planning in the moment is all about seizing the moment for children to progress. Based on what the children are already deeply involved in, this way of planning relies on our skilled staff using quality interactions to draw out the children’s knowledge and build on it there and then (In The Moment)
